Passage, 1987

Guy Dill (1946- )

Steel

Fine Art Ordinance Obligation

As opposed to his other sculptures in and around Beverly Hills, Guy Dill's Passage is free of references to the human form. It is an entirely architectural structure. But by demarcating a division in space and allowing transition from one side of that division to the other, the towering steel sculpture implies the continual - and often actual - passage of bodies across the inferred boundary. It could be argued that the artwork is "completed" by anyone who walks through it.
