Deputy City Manager (Public Affairs)
Cheryl Friedling is Deputy City Manager, managing strategic communications, media relations, marketing, brand management, community outreach, public affairs and intergovernmental relations for the City.
Prior to joining the City of Beverly Hills in 2007, Ms. Friedling served as Director of Public Affairs and Communications for West Basin Municipal Water District, a regional water agency which spans a 17-city area from Malibu to Palos Verdes. She also served as the first director of Public Affairs for the City of Costa Mesa. Ms. Friedling spent over a decade in the private sector as vice president of corporate communications and global public affairs for Parsons Corporation, MWH Global Inc. and First Interstate Bank, respectively.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Friedling worked in the Washington, DC office of Congressman Don Edwards of San Jose, California. In that role, she managed media relations and coordinated efforts of the California Congressional Delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives. She also represented the University of California as Associate Director of Government Affairs in Washington, DC.
Ms. Friedling graduated with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley. Active in various professional and community organizations, she is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and the Public Relations Society of America.
