City Clerk Byron Pope
Byron Pope was appointed by the City Council as City Clerk in 2005. He has more than 12 years of management experience including serving as Deputy City Clerk and as the City's Commercial Services Manager. Pope is responsible for local elections, local legislation, the Public Records Act, the Political Reform Act, and the Brown Act (open meeting laws). Before and after the city council takes action, the City Clerk ensures that actions are in compliance with all federal, state and local statutes and regulations and that all actions are properly executed, recorded, and archived. In addition, the city clerk serves as the liaison between the public and city council and provides related municipal services.
Pope is a graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in Business Administration. He is a member of the City Clerks Association of California, the National Notary Association, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Administrative Services Policy Committee – League of California Cities. He was the League's presidential appointee for 2008.
