Ralph E. Mundell was appointed as Fire Chief for the City of Beverly Hills Fire Department on October 18, 2013.
Chief Mundell is a 28-year veteran of the Beverly Hills Fire Department. He has served in all capacities leading up to Fire Chief, including Interim Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Training and Safety Officer, Fire Marshal, Battalion Chief Platoon Commander, Fire Captain, Fire Engineer, and Firefighter. Chief Mundell was also active in the Beverly Hills Firefighters' Association where he served 14 years as President.
Chief Mundell has a Bachelor's degree from California State University Long Beach and is a certified Fire Officer and Chief Officer in the State of California. He is a recipient of the Felix Rothschild Firefighter of the Year Award as well as two Harvey Adair Awards for Meritorious Service. His vast knowledge of the fire service and emergency operations includes expertise in Urban Search and Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Prevention & Life Safety issues, Labor and Management Relations, and Wildland Fire Behavior.
Chief Mundell leads a dedicated team of 90 sworn and civilian personnel. He feels very fortunate to serve the City of Beverly Hills and is proud to continue a tradition of excellent customer service and leadership of the Fire Department.
He and his wife, Donna, have two sons and reside in the Santa Clarita Valley.
