Beverly Hills' Smoking Regulations May Include Multi-Unit Housing

On August 16, 2016, the Beverly Hills City Council decided to pursue a policy that may regulate smoking in multi-unit housing within the City, and tasked the Health & Safety Commission with leading the research and design of the forthcoming policy. The Commission will report their findings and recommendations to the City Council at a subsequent meeting. The policy may regulate smoking in all apartments and condominiums within the City of Beverly Hills.

The Beverly Hills Municipal Code states that property owners may prohibit smoking within their buildings, including electronic cigarettes, as provided by the California Civil Code section 1947.5. A policy that regulates smoking in multi-unit housing would expand upon State of California legislation, instead of leaving it as a choice for property owners.
