Landlords must give tenants at least 30 days’ notice of a rent increase (Civil Code Section 827b). They may only raise the rent once in any 12-month period.
Refuse fee surcharge and water service penalty surcharges may be passed through to tenants in addition to the permitted annual adjustment.
