Weekly Update 6/14/19

Wilshire/Rodeo Station

Utility work advances on Wilshire.

Preparation for sewer and water line replacement continues on Wilshire between Beverly and Crescent. Work will be done in stages over the next five months and will require some turn restrictions and lane closures. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm and 8:15 pm to 7 am.

Potholing for utilities continues on Wilshire.

Potholing work for identifying the location of existing sewer and water utilities is in progress. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. This work is at various locations on Wilshire between Crescent and Beverly and is coordinated with other utility work. Left turn restrictions and the closure of one westbound and one eastbound traffic lane will be required.

Construction activities in progress at staging yards.

Grading and site conditioning are underway at the Reeves Yard to support temporary electrical installation and lighting in the yard. This work will be done Monday through Friday, 8 am to 8 pm.* At the Cañon Yard, grading and ground preparation for the installation of a 20-foot soundwall are also in progress. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm. The soundwall around the Cañon Yard is anticipated to be completed in July.*

Wilshire/La Cienega Station

Closures anticipated near Wilshire.

The following closures* are scheduled to take place during the upcoming week:

  • North Gale will be closed from 6 am to 6 pm on weekdays and Saturday.
  • Curbside and middle lanes in both directions on La Cienega near Wilshire will be intermittently closed from 9 am to 3:30 pm Wednesday through Friday.

Please use alternative routes and continue to respect construction barriers and detours for your safety.

Other Nearby Projects (Non-Purple Line Extension)

Tree pruning to occur overnight on Wilshire.

The City will begin pruning palm trees near the future Wilshire/Rodeo station Sunday, June 16, through Friday, June 21. Work hours are from 10 pm to 6 am, and work will begin on the south side of Wilshire and head east. Work is expected to begin on the north side of Wilshire around mid-week. Overnight tree pruning will continue in the shopping district for about four weeks.

Fiber optic work continues on N. Gale.

Crown Castle will be performing construction on North Gale near Wilshire through Sunday, June 16. Work will include sawcutting, removing asphalt, and trenching to install a conduit. Lane closures will also be in place. Work hours are weekdays from 4 pm to 9 pm and Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm. The Purple Line Extension will provide a transportation alternative to the congested Westside, including two stops in Beverly Hills: Wilshire/ La Cienega and Wilshire/ Rodeo.

  • MOA Compliance Report
    The Independent Compliance Monitor is required to be on-site for all construction activities to monitor permit conditions and MOA requirements, such as noise compliance, hauling and parking.  Weekly reports are submitted for Section 1 and 2.

  • Contact Log
    The attached logs track contact interactions such as phone conversations, emails and letters for Section 1 (Wilshire/La Cienega) and Section 2 (Wilshire/Rodeo). Metro and the City keep separate contact logs.
  • Claims Process
    As part of the Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Beverly Hills and Metro, Metro is required to maintain an administrative claims process. Residents and businesses may file a claim for damage caused by the contractor during construction of the Purple Line Extension by contacting Metro to complete a field report at purplelineext@metro.net or via telephone at (213) 922-6934.

    You will need to provide the following information: current address, telephone number, date and time of the incident, and a detailed narrative of the incident and any damages incurred. The field report must be completed by a team member of the Metro Purple Line Extension at the email or phone number provided above.

    Please contact Perla Berry with the City of Beverly Hills Project Team at (310) 288-2840 for assistance with submitting a claim to Metro.

    Metro will provide the City with monthly updates on the claims that were filed by residents and businesses.

The project is scheduled to be built in three sections.  The first section of the Purple Line Extension will extend the subway from the Wilshire/ Western station in Los Angeles to Wilshire/La Cienega in Beverly Hills.  Section 2 extends from the Wilshire/ La Cienega station to the Wilshire/ Rodeo station and then on to the Century City / Constellation station.
