How to Apply for a Permit

Overview
The Community Development Department consists of two divisions - the Planning Division and the Building and Safety Division.  Both divisions implement the long-range vision of development, safety and preservation of the City. Department staff work closely with the public to insure that buildings are constructed safely and that community aesthetics and our environment are maintained and enhanced achieving a harmonious and prosperous community. 

Initial Project Review
Planning - The Planning Division will discuss what steps need to be taken before applying for a building permit, and will be able to assist you through the initial review process.

Building Plan Review
Building & Safety - The Building & Safety Division reviews plans, issues building permits and provides inspections.

Applying for a Permit
To get started, you'll want to speak with a member of the Planning Division.  The best way to speak with a planner is to schedule an appointment; scheduling an appointment in advance assures that the staff member will have adequate time to discuss your project with you, and provide you with the information you need.
