Henri Alfred Marie Jacquemart (1895-1924)
City of Beverly Hills Donation by Willis D. Longyear
French artist Henri Alfred Jacquemart studied painting and sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Jacquemart traveled in Egypt and Turkey gaining the styles of these two cultures. The sculpture was first sited in the United States at the estate of Mr. Longyear on November 11, 1925 in memorial to his son killed during the Battle of Chateau Thierry in 1917.
Fun Fact: Mr. Longyear transported the statue from France to Beverly Hills and unveiled it at his estate before donating it to the city.
