Torso of A Walking Man

Torso of a Walking Man

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917)

City of Beverly Hills Donation by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation

Rodin is considered the father of modern sculpture. To the chaste, Rodin's work was scandalous, but to those free of such contempt, the body is not something sinful but something to celebrate. His sculptures have been described as powerful, having dynamic complexity and having a feeling of solid existence that is very pleasing to look at.

Fun Fact: Rodin also sculpted "The Thinker", an iconic statue known around the world.
