Falling Water Santa Cruz Series #3, #5, #7
Falling Water, 1972
Jack Zajac (1929- )
Fine Art Ordinance Obligation at 9336 Civic Center Drive
Zajac, born in Ohio in 1929, began his career as an abstract expressionist, then began making animal sculptures in clay. He next began exploring images of falling water, wings, and swans, carved in stone, perhaps inspired by living in Santa Cruz, California. The Falling Water series comes in single columns or multiples as seen here. One of his white stone swans can be seen at 433 N. Camden Drive.
Fun Fact: Among Zajac's earliest exhibited sculpture was a series of sacrificial animals - goats and lambs sprawled over a stake or bound on their backsides.
