The sculpture portrays a young ballerina in a classical arabesque enhanced with an ambitious expansiveness -- an "arabesque with attitude," if you will, that tries to emulate the feeling of flying. The dancer is perched on top of a fluted column and is surrounded by a flying ribbon. The sculpture, placed in a round fountain, seems encircled by doves affixed to both the column and the fountain. Active in the United States and her native Norway, Kokkin created Flight to Infinity for the opening of the Beverly Hills Peninsula Hotel, whose entrance court the fountain occupies.
