9/11 MEMORIAL EXHIBIT

The 9/11 Memorial Exhibit in the Beverly Hills Public Library coincides with the dedication of the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden.  The exhibit documents the events leading to the Beverly Hills Fire Department obtaining a piece of steel from one of the towers that collapsed as the result of the 9/11 attack on the United States.

Documents on display include the correspondence between Beverly Hills Fire Chief Scranton and the New York Port Authority pertaining to acquiring this memorable piece of metal.  Photographs illustrate the arrival of the piece of steel and the plans and construction of the Memorial Garden.

Additionally, the exhibit conveys the life story of one of the heroes and victims of 9/11, Capt. Charles Frank Burlingame, III.  Capt. Burlingame was the pilot of the American Airlines plane that terrorists high jacked and then crashed into the Pentagon.  Among the display are memorabilia such as tributes to Capt. Burlingame, mementos of his life, a United States Senate 9/11 Memorial Program, FBI Property Identification Pages,

letters from local school children sent to the Burlingame family, correspondence from Senator Dianne Feinstein, the California Remembrance Book for victims’ families, and photographs of Capt. Burlingame’s funeral at Arlington National Cemetery.
