The Beverly Hills Public Library S*T*A*R* literacy program is not accepting new students or tutors at this time. We are currently waiting to see if we get funding from the state. Thank you for your understanding during this transition.
Classes Offered: See the Fall 2011 Class Flyer HERE'S TO YOUR HEALTH: A health class on wellness- learn what questions to ask your doctor and pharmacist. CONVERSATION/ BASIC SKILLS: This class covers the basics of conversation and pronunciation. NEWS FOR YOU: This class uses a real newspaper designed to fit your reading level.
Who We Serve: Adults from age 17 and up (do not have to be Beverly Hills Residents)
We are committed to helping adult students improve their reading, writing and speaking skills. Additionally, a person may want to get their GED diploma, drivers' license or may want to becom a U.S. citizen or any other certificate or job search help. Upon occasion there may be students who have graduated from high school without the ability to read, who come to our program for help.
Tutor Recruitment and applications We are not accepting tutor applications at this time.
Student Registration and Orientation: We are not accepting new students at this time.
Family Literacy Workshop: a workshop designed for adult learners (parents, grandparents, or caretakers) with children 5 years old and younger.
Program Goal: Resources are provided to introduce adult learners and their families to the value and joy of reading, helping assure that each child will enter school ready to read.
