During the past year, new automatic water meters have been installed for all customers in Beverly Hills. Unfortunately, technical complications early in the project caused a substantial delay in billing. Over the next few weeks, you will receive up to three utility bills consecutively to bring your account up-to-date.
Why am I receiving these bills so close together?
Shortly after the City’s new automatic water meters came on-line in the spring, it was determined a significant number of meters were reporting inaccurate data. City staff initiated actions to identify and correct the technical glitches leading to this problem.
Accordingly, the City chose to forego its regular billings procedures, temporarily, until all system problems were corrected. Once the system was operating satisfactorily by transmitting accurate water-use data, billing would resume to utility customers.
The correction to the system took approximately 3 billing cycles to complete. As a result, the bill or bills you are receiving involve one, two or all three of those billing cycles.
How long do I have to pay each bill?
Customers are asked to pay each bill according to the due date listed on each bill received.
Can I get an extension to pay off my bills?
Although it has been some time since our customers have received a bill, the City recognizes that it may be difficult to receive one, two or three bills in a short time period. Customers are asked to contact the City’s utility billing department and speak to a Customer Service Representative if they have any issues with their payment. Billing Customer Service Representatives can be reached at (310) 285-2436.
Will I have to pay a penalty for my water-use from the delayed bills?
No. The City’s Stage-B Water Conservation Ordinance, in effect since July 1, requires each customer to reduce water-use by 10%. While the City encourages all customers to conserve, a penalty will not be charged until the City gets caught-up with all prior billing cycles. Customers interested in obtaining their current water-use can call 310.285.2467 to obtain this information. *In the future, it is the City’s goal to offer customers direct access to this data to allow each household to monitor its water-use on demand.
For additional billing information please call Utility Billing at (310) 285-2436. For more water-use information call Customer Service at (310) 285-2467.
*The City now has a new online service that allows you to track your water usage. Go to the Water Tracker application page, type in the last name and the account number (without the dash and last two digits) as on your water bill and you will see your water consumption for previous days or billing cycles! Now you can compare your consumption to the target amount for your household.
It is our goal to work with our customers during this transition. We appreciate your patience.
