Election Date Change Notice

Dear Registered Voter:

Senate Bill 415 (SB 415), also known as the California Voter Participation Rights Act (California Code Sections 14050-14057), was approved by Governor Jerry Brown on September 1, 2015. SB 415 prohibits cities from holding an election other than on a statewide election date if holding an election on a nonconcurrent date has previously resulted in voter turnout for a regularly scheduled election being at least 25% less than the average voter turnout rate within the city for the previous four statewide general elections. To comply with SB 415, the City of Beverly Hills has adopted Ordinance No. 17-O-2740.  Upon approval by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the City Clerk/Elections Official is required within thirty (30) days, to notify all registered voters in the City of the change in the election date and extension of the current Councilmembers’ terms. This postcard serves as the official notification to the registered voters of Beverly Hills.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to California Elections Code §1301 and the City of Beverly Hills Ordinance No. 17-O-2740, that the date for the General Municipal Election in the City of Beverly Hills has been changed from the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of odd-numbered years to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of even-numbered years, and is to be consolidated with the Statewide Primary Election in March 2020.

Pursuant to action taken by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on December 19, 2017, the Board approved the City of Beverly Hills’ ordinance and ordered consolidation with the California Primary Election ballot administered by the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder’s Office, effective March 2020.

City office holders whose term of office would have expired in March 2019 shall instead conclude their terms of office following the certification of the results and administration of the oath of office after the March 2020 election. City office holders whose term of office would have expired in March 2021 shall instead conclude their terms of office following the certification of the results and administration of the oath of office after the March 2022 election.
