April 24 at 7:30 pm
Over 100 years ago, the very existence of Beverly Hills was threatened by annexation plans from the City of Los Angeles. Emboldened by their new local identity, celebrity residents Will Rogers, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and others mobilized local voters against the plan. The residents of Beverly Hills put the annexation to a vote and Beverly Hills retained independent authority as a municipality on April 24, 1923. Celebrate BH Independence Day with a special double-feature beginning with "The Stars Who Saved BH" at 7:30 pm followed by a screening of "The Iron Mask" (1929), a part-talkie adventure film featuring a voiced prologue by star Douglas Fairbanks.
