What: Robertson Sidewalk and Tree Replacement Project
When: Tentative Schedule Begin: Mid–January 2023 End: Mid–March 2023 (weather permitting).
Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday thru Friday (excluding holidays).
Where: Both sides of Robertson Blvd., from northern to southern City limits.
Why:
The overgrown roots of the Ficus trees along the sidewalks of Robertson Boulevard have lifted up the concrete panels of the sidewalk and caused an uneven surface around the trees. To repair the damaged sidewalk, the roots within 8 inches of the sidewalk surface need to be removed to allow for the installation of a new sidewalk. The City’s Arborist has inspected each tree and determined that the health of the trees would be negatively impacted by the removal of the roots needed to repair the damaged sidewalk, and the majority of the trees will need to be removed to allow for the installation of the new sidewalk. Upon the completion of the new sidewalk installation, the removed trees will be replaced with alternating Crape Myrtle trees and Mexican Fan Palms following the same pattern already established on parts of the sidewalk where Ficus trees have been removed and replaced in the past. The tree removal and future planting will be performed by the City’s contracted professional tree maintenance and management firm, West Coast Arborists, and will be supervised by a City Urban Forest Inspector.
What to Expect:
- Trucks and equipment working from the street.
- Temporary impacts to on-street parking.
- Temporary lane closures (maximum one lane)
- Moderate to high noise at times.
- 2 – 4 tree removals per day of work.
