Solid Waste & Recycling

The City of Beverly Hills has developed an integrated approach to waste collection services, which includes trash, green waste and recycling collection. These programs help the City reduce waste sent to landfills.

LANDFILL & RECYCLING:

Waste disposal in the City is easy! You no longer need to sort out recyclables… the City does it for you!

  • Recycling and landfill are both disposed of using BLACK containers.
  • The mixed waste from your black container is sent to a materials recovery facility where the recyclables are sorted out.
  • This system has enabled the City to meet and exceed a state-mandated 50% diversion of waste from landfills.
GREENWASTE:

Greenwaste (aka compost) includes organic materials that are able to decompose and be composted in a composting facility.

  • Organic material should be the only material disposed of in the GREEN containers (see list of acceptable and not acceptable materials below).
  • Greenwaste comprises about 40% of the waste generated by BH residents.
  • To meet state-mandated reduction goals, all curbside collection customers are required to separate all greenwaste from landfill and recycling.
  • The City provides green bins, where you can place all organic waste that is able to be composted, shown in the list below.
