River Rocks
Fine Art Ordinance Obligation
Working from the beginning of his career with abstract forms, Woods Davy turned towards a quasi-Zen approach in which formal relationships underscore the inherent qualities of natural objects rather than force such evocative presences into mere decoration. Taking a minimalistic approach, Davy brings together weathered rocks into self-possessed, often heroic displays that allow each rock its own integrity as well as a dynamic relationship with other stones. Cantamar is the name of the Mexican beach where Davy collected these rocks. The sculpture thus functions as a document of its own assembling as well as a presentation of discrete natural phenomena.
